We assisted this article when we had a problem with one of our ESX servers, the symptom was that the server was very slow, and all of our daily actions such as powering a virtual machine on/off, taking a snapshot/ reverting to a snapshot were taking more than 20 minutes – extremely slow. We tried to restart the management service and the vpxa many times. and nothing had worked.

Eventually the server appeared as disconnected in the vCenter server and did not respond to ping. (request timed out), we went to the server localy and we saw a purple screen with the error: “lost heartbeat”.

We have found the following VMware KB:
